【 Pharmacological effects 】 Tetracycline antibiotics. Doxycycline is an efficient and broad-spectrum semi synthetic antibiotic that reversibly binds to receptors on the 30S subunit of bacterial ribosomes, interfering with the formation of ribosomal complexes between tRNA and mRNA, preventing peptide chain elongation and inhibiting protein synthesis, thereby rapidly inhibiting bacterial growth and reproduction. Doxycycline has inhibitory effects on both Gram positive and negative bacteria. Bacteria have cross resistance to doxycycline and oxytetracycline.
